When I try to install office 2000 using custom install, it tells me that I don't have enough room on drive C. It will not let me install to drive D, which has plenty of room. Computer Failure
XP Pro is installed on IDE0 but I would like a second copy to be available on another drive. I made an active partition on IDE3 and tried Drive Image 2002 which copies OK but just adds another option on the start-up screen. If I select Boot from IDE3 in the BIOS the start-up message asks for a CD ROM start.

I'm assuming that it is total power on time since the drive was manufactured. Correct: it indicates how many hours the drive itself has been powered on as an aggregate total. Eg if powered on for 48 hours, then shut off for 3 hours, then powered on for another 7, the stat would read 55 hours.

HD problems
The 1st guy at Dell had me reformat the c: but that didn't work - I still couldn't Install Windows. Of course, I fooled around with Repair Console commands like map, fixboot, and fixmbr to try to get back in - no success. One of them is simply a defective HDD (notwithstanding that the BIOS and/or the OS detects the drive). Since this is a fresh install of the OS I assume there's no data on that disk that you need. The current method of installing Vista results in a clean environment. Vista does not use your old system and root thru it and replace files. It lays out an image file. You could install to another partition which you formatted, then, if you install on a different drive, you can clean up the start-up process.
